The designer, Hiromi Asai, first presented Kimonos on runway at the New York Fashion Week in 2016. For his Spring-Summer 2023 collection, Christian Juul Nielsen turned to the French pantomime character Pierrot Lunaire. In this retelling, Pierrot found himself in an Icelandic flower field after falling to the earth from the moon, surrounded by purple blue lupines, lavender cuckoos, and acid green grass. Pierrot brings with him to earth bits of the silvershine from the moon while still wearing his black headpiece, ruffled shirts, and oversized pants, all accented with tons of tulle.
