For Spring Summer 2018, J&M Davidson takes us on a colorful journey via Mexico City and Istanbul, with a vibrantly-hued palette and bold silhouettes inspired by the cities’ striking landscapes.

The collection transports one effortlessly from city to city, with designs that capture the bohemian spirit of an urban nomad. Subtle details, tactile textures and bold proportions lend the collection a spirited, optimistic attitude.

Vividly saturated colors lifted from the canvases of Diego Rivera, Henri Mattisse and David Hockney embolden romantic peasant blouses and maxi dresses in fuchsia pink and apple green, evoking Mexico’s candy-striped buildings. The yellow floral silk brocade Anatolia coat, inspired by those traditionally worn during the Ottoman Empire, stands out alongside the masculine-meets-feminine twill Piper jacket, natural hemp Hobie duster coat and striped Anatolia coat in ecru and navy blue linen. Paired with the white cotton organdie Rose dress and easy, airy Ariel top, the collection captures the cool blend of androgyny and nonchalant femininity synonymous with J&M Davidson.

The shapes and colors of the Spring Summer 2018 handbag styles reflect the relaxed mood of a modern day vagabond – uncomplicated silhouettes in rich navy, sahara beige and caramel, as well as Mediterranean camellia pink and China blue. The new silhouettes include the Axel – an effortless, everyday suede tote that’s practical and unfussy, with a handy pocket hidden at its base: ideal for a woman on the move. For evening, the Eleonor handbag is something a little more structured while still insouciant – the brass hardware, oblong shape and sturdy frame allow it to make a quiet statement. Smaller but no less smart, the Aime is a vintage-inspired top-handle bag brought up to date with a discreet row of studs – it’s elegant yet carefree, much like the J&M Davidson woman.

With its exotic color palette, effortless charm and bohemian flare, the Spring Summer 2018 collection conjures up a sense of urban escapism.

Designer Kenya Freeman of Sylvia Mollie "Makes it Work" on Project Runway

Kenya Freeman, photo: Project Runway

Kenya Freeman, photo: Project Runway

She keeps two notebooks by her bed. As thoughts and ideas make their way into her dreams, she awakes, rolls over to jot them down and goes back to sleep – and possibly dream some more. By morning, as the alarm clock goes off and sleepy eyes open, she glances in her notebook and inspiration is born. Designer Kenya Freeman, of the label Sylvia Mollie, is literally living her dream. Kenya seeks inspiration from everything and everyone. If it’s not coming in her dreams then she finds it in nature, in her surroundings and on the street. Her mind is always wandering and conceptualizing.

Kenya didn’t know she was a designer right away. In the twelfth grade, she signed up for a fashion co-op class where she learned to create mood boards and studied merchandising. This came to Kenya with such ease that her mother enrolled her in fashion school. In her first year in college, she started sewing, watching her designs transform from sketches to garments. Everything felt so effortless. For the first time, Kenya felt like she had been given a gift. She felt like a designer. There is a lot to be said about a mother’s intuition.

Strong lines and architectural patterns are things Kenya embraces in her designs and textile choices. Other elements such as shape and texture – the feel and touch of fabric is very important to her – also play a part in the DNA makeup of the brand. Her aesthetic comes from the allure of the classic woman. So who is the Sylvia Mollie “woman?” Well, firstly, she has a name, Kenya calls her “Tony.” “This is a powerhouse of a woman whose classic looks must transition to evening. Everything she wears has to be bold, beautiful and make a statement,” adds Kenya. Flowing fabric and a feminine sensibility, with a conscious attention to silhouette, perfectly balance the brand’s timeless yet modern approach. Strength and femininity are harmoniously woven together within the Sylvia Mollie collections.

project runway

So while Kenya Freeman may be living her designer dreams, it is also fair to say that her future is now – and it’s unfolding on national television for the whole world to see. Her personal life and professional career was uprooted, tested and turned upside down – in the name of fashion– when she was selected as a cast member to the Emmy Award winning Project Runway on Lifetime TV. Kenya is featured on the sixteenth season of Project Runway and said this was the best experience ever. She believes that being on the show will elevate the Sylvia Mollie brand to the next level from the tremendous exposure she receives week after week and though it wasn’t always easy being on the show and working under so much pressure, she absolutely “made it work!” Speaking of “making it work” Tim Gunn is wonderful according to Kenya, going on to say that the warm and nurturing gentleman you see on tv is consistent off air as well. Of course, she was tight-lipped about Project Runway specifics, not able to discuss how far she got in the show or who were the celebrity judges. She wouldn’t even drop hints. This is how Kenya described her Project Runway experience: “It was so many things – it was great, it was emotionally draining, it was fantastic, it was exciting and stressful, I’ve never absorbed so much caffeine, I’ve never gotten up so early - it was a lot of things. A very unique experience like no other and just to say that I am now a part of the Project Runway family at this point is something few can say.”

Kenya Freeman and her label Sylvia Mollie may very well be on their way to designer stardom and making its way to a closet near you. Kenya aspires to see her brand carried in the high end markets such as Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf’s but for now, the most accessible place to shop Sylvia Mollie is online at http://www.sylviamollie.com/

Among the minimal, warm-toned rooms typical of any Wright structure, Reid placed mannequins cobbled out of archival trims and hardware, from copper buttons and brass rivets to scrap leather and his signature heirloom ribbon. The mannequins had on a selection of relaxed Reid signatures like washed linen jackets, jacquard sweaters, distressed denim shirts, raglan sleeves, knit pants, pleated shorts, as well as Reid’s debut eyewear line, and leather lace-up sneakers with K-Swiss, some with an antiquated cracked effect.

PUMA AND RIHANNA TURN UP THE HEAT FOR SPRING-SUMMER ‘18

FENTY PUMA BY RIHANNA RETURNS TO NYC WITH NEW TRICKS AND GRAVITY-DEFYING FASHIONS

Rihanna returned to New York Fashion Week with a dominating force, introducing her latest daredevil FENTY PUMA by RIHANNA collection at the majestic Park Armory among dunes of illustrious pink sand and motocross riders in the air. Bearing witness to the feat is a bold global fashion crowd knocked over by a collection that intersects beach chic with motorsport sexy. Once again, FENTY PUMA by RIHANNA make waves and fuse luxury and sport in a way that only Rihanna and PUMA can.

“This collection is a mix between two worlds: motocross and surf. It was a challenge to bring them together but it ended up being the perfect combination,” beams Rihanna.

True to the FENTY PUMA by RIHANNA DNA, Rihanna continues to play with gender-fluid silhouettes and oversized shapes paired with sexy body-con styles. Perennial collection favorites are reimagined in new seasonal appropriate fabrics and colors. The classic Track Suit is updated with a surf-inspired twist with neon bungee cords and super lightweight rubber coated leather. The iconic lacing leggings were refashioned with bungee cords and cut outs up to there in pop colors from Cherry Tomato, Bae and Evening Blue. Stand-out details include two never-before-seen images of Rihanna in funky executions like triptych and distorted checkerboard overlays featured on best-selling styles like the Crew Neck Long-sleeve Tees, Short Sleeve Tees, and Oversized Hoodies.

Always surprising and unexpected, the collection introduces Swimwear for the first time with curve-hugging mono-kinis and body confident bikinis, perfect for streetwear and pool parties. Swimwear pieces pair nicely with summer apparel must-have’s like Terry Toweling Hoodies, Oversized Graphic Sweatshirts, Basketball and Booty Shorts. The neon hits, wet-looked gel prints, wetsuit pullers and rubber patch details throughout the collection are a nod to throwback surf and extreme watersport culture.

Paying homage to PUMA’s history in motorsport, Rihanna transformed classic performance racing gear into runway-ready looks decked in tech materials such as lightweight leathers, nylon and air tech mesh. Technical race suits and driving pants rendered with checker flag graphics, sporty decals and motorsport gear go from forever faster to forever fashion.

The Creeper gets a makeover with neoprene materials, gravity-defying translucent stacked soles and bungee cord laces. Sexy thong heeled sandals, ankle strap heels and bungee cord lace-up shoes feature a split PUMA cat on the heel. And what’s Spring/Summer without new FENTY slides – this time designed as an espadrille slip-on and a combo leather-neoprene neon pool slide. Deep Forest Green, Triple Black and Golden Beige boots are highlighted with sock-like and bungee cord features and rich supple suede.

Exaggerated Carry-Alls, a metallic puffy Barrel Bag and Surfer Ankle Straps and Chokers are splashed with FentyxPUMA branding. Summer Visors, classic Baseball Caps with branded nylon webbing and rubber coated clips compliment dye cut logo headwear and buckets. The unique Scuba Duffle, an array of Backpacks and a giant Bum Bag round-up the season’s accessories.

The FENTY PUMA by RIHANNA Spring/Summer ’18 collection will launch at lifestyle and fashion retailers worldwide in March 2018.
