Botnek Drops "Buffering..." EP Featuring Snails Collaboration "ur 2 cool"

botnek

Consistently pushing the boundaries of modern sonics, Botnek delivers their blistering 4-track EP Buffering... After kicking off the package with "ur 2 cool," a mammoth "vomitstep" collaboration with fellow Canadian Snails, the duo maintains a pace of 128 with the breakbeat / electro hybrid "Simple Sounds." They also remix their own track "Losing My Mind" into a darkwave / industrial-tinged monster before closing out the EP with "Pickles!," a quirky house number reminiscent of the pioneering sound Botnek has become known for.

In an emblematic combination of Botnek’s pioneering sound design and tongue-in-cheek persona, “ur 2 cool” is currently dominating the festival circuit. The Beatport Top 10 Electro House track has attracted a laundry list of support, including Skrillex on his OWSLA Radio show, TJR at EDC Las Vegas and both DJ Snake and Knife Party at Ultra Music Festival Brazil and Japan, respectively. It also received accolades from several leading music sites, including Billboard, Dancing Astronaut, and This Song Is Sick. “ur 2 cool” arrived after a busy summer for Botnek, who made their own appearance at EDC Las Vegas before joining collaborator Snails on his vast “Slugz City” tour.

2016 has seen Botnek flourish, in what has been one of their most prolific years to date. After kicking off the year with a massive remix of Twenty One Pilots’ “Stressed Out,” they released their Connecting? EP, which gained support from David Guetta, Afrojack, and Martin Garrix. In September, Ookay commissioned the Canadian duo to produce an official remix of his festival anthem “Thief,” and they stayed true to their roots by flipping the future bass track on its head in a grimy 128BPM house rendition. To close out the year, dance music’s top sound designers bring it home on Buffering…

Steve Aoki Remixes My Chemical Romance's “Welcome To The Black Parade"

steve aoki my chemical romance

Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of their iconic album The Black Parade, My Chemical Romance taps Dim Mak label head Steve Aoki to remix their 2006 single “Welcome To The Black Parade.” Keeping the timeless vocals of frontman Gerard Way intact, Aoki breathes new life into the emo classic by injecting his signature electro flair in a flawless amalgamation of new-school and old-school. To coincide with the release, Aoki and Way are live-streaming a head-to-head battle in the multiplayer shooting game Overwatch on Twitch, the world’s premier online portal for live gaming. The stream will take place on Aoki’s birthday (November 30th), making it a celebration trifecta where the victor will win $10,000 to donate to the charity of his choice.

To this day, My Chemical Romance’s breakout album The Black Paraderemains an archetype of millennial rock music. The record, which NME Magazine lauded as “The Sgt Pepper of the Emo Generation,” reached #1 on Billboard’s Rock Albums chart in 2006 before receiving a Grammy nomination for its limited edition box set. The LP went on to be certified Platinum and spawned the “Welcome to the Black Parade” single, which followed suit by selling over 1,000,000 copies. The track was eventually named one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll, among other major accolades.

Steve Aoki, whose sonic roots emanate from punk music, is no stranger to remixing massive rock and roll songs. In August, he released a stellar rework of Blink-182’s “Bored to Death” before performing the track live on MTV’s brand new Wonderland series. He has also worked alongside Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy, Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, and Luke Steele of Empire of the Sun. Aoki enjoyed a prolific summer that saw him release his Netflix original documentary I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead and his momentous 4OKI EP, which earned praise from Harper’s Bazaar, The Wall Street Journal, and many more. Additionally, his single with Boehm featuring Walk The Moon “Back 2 U” has been streamed over 28M times on Spotify. Moreover, Aoki celebrated the 20th Anniversary of his iconic brand Dim Mak by throwing official events in 20 global hotspots over the course of 2016. Turning back the clock to the glory days of emo, he remixes “Welcome to the Black Parade” in typical larger-than-life Aoki fashion.

Wolfgang Gartner releases “Baby Be Real ft. John Oates”

wolfgang john oats baby be real

Wolfgang Gartner has teamed up with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, John Oates, one half of the legendary duo Hall & Oates, for Gartner’s latest single “Baby Be Real.”

The 80s-inspired groove showcases the same nostalgic, dancefloor-driven sonics Gartner produced on his  last album 10 Ways To Steal Home Plate, coupled with Oates’ iconic buoyant vocals encouraging listeners to keep it real.

“Baby Be Real’ developed from a song idea that I started writing with Josh Charles.  Wolfgang Gartner heard a demo version and liked it enough to build a really pumped-up track around the hook. He jacked up the dance vibe big time, and the record really rocks!  I love what he did with it and can't wait to hear it on the dance floor!” adds John Oates.

“The opportunity was floated to me to turn this demo into a dance track and mix worlds by combining John’s vocals and my music. I took John’s a cappella and wrote all new music underneath it, going for a sort of late 90’s disco house throwback vibe.  This project was so organic and refreshing for me, as an opportunity to revisit the sound that I grew up on and collaborate with a legend and personal hero,”  says Wolfgang Gartner.

With Wolfgang Gartner at the helm of the “Baby Be Real” beat, Oates dazzles on his electronic music vocalist debut.

Sharam & Daniel Bedingfield - “Call To Me (Sharam’s Crazi Dub edit)”

sharam and daniel bedingfield

Following in the footsteps of his 'i' series, which includes such classics as Texi, Crazi, and Tripi, Sharam applies the same mindset to his single “Call To Me,” crafting a unique dub that utilizes complex, evolving arpeggios, driving bass riffs, and other bold sonic elements. The mix reduces Daniel Bedingfield's somber vocals to mere snippets; ghostly effects lurking in the background of a looming arrangement tailored for the Underground audience.

The original was released on Sharam's album Retroactive in June.  This dynamic collaboration’s roots go back to the pair’s hit single “The One” from Sharam’s 2008 album Get Wild.  As is typical with Sharam, 'Call To Me' infuses Bedingfield’s beautiful, complex and heart-warming songwriting with a dark and lavish house groove resulting in a composition fit for the club, the radio, the beach, the bus, or anywhere you can escape into this emotional, sonic journey.
