Steve Aoki Drops DVBBS Collaboration "Without U" Featuring 2 Chainz

steve aoki edm

Record producer, DJ and music executive Steve Aoki launches his new track “Without U” off his forthcoming album. The latest single, collaboration with DJ/producer duo DVBBS and featuring 2 Chainz, was recorded in early 2016 after Aoki spoke with the Atlanta rapper for years about a potential collab, resulting in a co-produced banger that Tity Boi recorded separately in his studio.

In his continuing quest to bridge genres, Aoki is set to perform at JMBLYA fest on May 5 & 6 alongside Chance the Rapper, Gucci Mane, Migos, Lil Uzi Vert, 6lack and others. This is all coming off of the back of his pop driven single last December, Aoki's uplifting collab with One Direction member Louis Tomlinson “Just Hold On," which debuted at #1 in 43 countries and has since achieved Gold or Platinum status in 18 countries. Aoki also earned his second Grammy nomination this past year for the Best Music Film category for his Netflix original documentary I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, which chronicles his fast-paced life as a DJ/producer by offering a firsthand look into his world. The film debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival last spring to a sold-out audience.

Aoki recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of his legendary imprint Dim Mak, his independent label founded in 1996 encompassing everything from edgy rock to trendsetting electro, celebrating at major festivals around the world and with the release of a special edition compilation album.

The Canadian Electronic Duo DVBBS, made up of brothers Chris Chronicles & Alex Andre, are most famous for their joint international hit with Borgeous titled "Tsunami". Since "Tsunami" they’ve dropped a string of hits – incl. “La La Land," “Gold Skies” and the No. 1 breakthrough “Angel” - relentlessly expanding their cultural footprint through platinum sales certifications in nearly a dozen countries. Their latest hit with CMC$ “Not Going Home” featuring Gia Koka has over 60 million streams on Spotify.

Grammy-award winning rapper 2 Chainz hails from College Park, Georgia and came hot on the mainstream scene in 2012 after reinventing himself with top signles from his debut studio album "No Lie," "Birthday Song," and "I'm Different". His recent single “It’s A Vibe” is stacked with features from Ty Dolla $ign, Trey Songz and Jhene Aiko.

Steve Aoki Remixes My Chemical Romance's “Welcome To The Black Parade"

steve aoki my chemical romance

Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of their iconic album The Black Parade, My Chemical Romance taps Dim Mak label head Steve Aoki to remix their 2006 single “Welcome To The Black Parade.” Keeping the timeless vocals of frontman Gerard Way intact, Aoki breathes new life into the emo classic by injecting his signature electro flair in a flawless amalgamation of new-school and old-school. To coincide with the release, Aoki and Way are live-streaming a head-to-head battle in the multiplayer shooting game Overwatch on Twitch, the world’s premier online portal for live gaming. The stream will take place on Aoki’s birthday (November 30th), making it a celebration trifecta where the victor will win $10,000 to donate to the charity of his choice.

To this day, My Chemical Romance’s breakout album The Black Paraderemains an archetype of millennial rock music. The record, which NME Magazine lauded as “The Sgt Pepper of the Emo Generation,” reached #1 on Billboard’s Rock Albums chart in 2006 before receiving a Grammy nomination for its limited edition box set. The LP went on to be certified Platinum and spawned the “Welcome to the Black Parade” single, which followed suit by selling over 1,000,000 copies. The track was eventually named one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll, among other major accolades.

Steve Aoki, whose sonic roots emanate from punk music, is no stranger to remixing massive rock and roll songs. In August, he released a stellar rework of Blink-182’s “Bored to Death” before performing the track live on MTV’s brand new Wonderland series. He has also worked alongside Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy, Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, and Luke Steele of Empire of the Sun. Aoki enjoyed a prolific summer that saw him release his Netflix original documentary I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead and his momentous 4OKI EP, which earned praise from Harper’s Bazaar, The Wall Street Journal, and many more. Additionally, his single with Boehm featuring Walk The Moon “Back 2 U” has been streamed over 28M times on Spotify. Moreover, Aoki celebrated the 20th Anniversary of his iconic brand Dim Mak by throwing official events in 20 global hotspots over the course of 2016. Turning back the clock to the glory days of emo, he remixes “Welcome to the Black Parade” in typical larger-than-life Aoki fashion.

Steve Aoki & Dim Mak Collaborate with PM Tenore and RVCA on Capsule Collection

steve aoki pm tenor rvca dim mak fashionado

Through RVCA's Artist Network Program (ANP), Steve Aoki and PM Tenore are proud to announce their merge of music and fashion together with the Dim Mak x RVCA 20th Anniversary Collaboration. The collection is a microcosm of each brand’s unparalleled impact on both industries.

The collection arrives in the midst of Dim Mak’s 20th Anniversary. Steve Aoki’s flagship record label has spent 2016 on an ambitious world tour, rocking audiences in Barcelona, Chicago, Ibiza, Malta, Mexico City, Montréal, New York City, and other global hotspots. With a milestone stop at Amsterdam’s famed ADE convention in the can, Dim Mak’s reputation as a global tastemaker has never been stronger. The Dim Mak x RVCA collaboration echoes that notion by striving to integrate the diverse network of different subcultures with one common thread: the balance of opposites. While the partnership between Dim Mak and RVCA is naturally idiosyncratic due to their roots in separate industries, it is not random by any means:

"I’ve known Pat Tenore for over 23 years, since I started going to his skate shop when I was 15 years old. In 2006, Pat and RVCA gave me my first fashion collaboration - a custom Steve Aoki bag. Since then I’ve had the pleasure of creating alongside Adidas, Burton, Diesel, and Supra to name a few, but nothing feels better than working with a close friend. Pat's been there since Day 1 and has always believed in me. This 20th Anniversary is a special time for both myself and for Dim Mak, and I can’t think of a better person and brand to collaborate with on our capsule collection." - Steve Aoki

Having grown up in the same Orange County area, founders Aoki and Tenore are cut from the same cloth. They connected during the punk rock era, both using skate culture as an early vehicle for inspiration. The entrepreneurs started their ventures from the ground up, instilling similar core values and DIY attitudes that still stand today. Those values are manifested today in RVCA’s Artist Network Program, which “aims to showcase the talent of accomplished as well as unknown artists who inspire our generation and push the boundaries of creativity.”

Dim Mak Revamps New Noise Imprint With Copyright Free Model Aimed at Gaming and YouTube Communities

dim mak records new noise edm

New Noise is Dim Mak’s new music discovery imprint that focuses on cutting edge sounds from burgeoning artists across the genre spectrum. Launched in 2010, New Noise got its start as a compilation series highlighting fresh faces handpicked by Steve Aoki and crew. By 2015, the platform evolved into a bi-weekly, free-download model based on singles. Today we are proud to announce the next progression of New Noise: a copyright free model that will allow the budding community of Twitch gamers and amateur YouTube content creators to use New Noise music in their videos and live streams with ease. Via a newly minted YouTube channel dedicated to New Noise, Twitch gamers and aspiring YouTube stars alike can now browse, discover and download New Noise songs to use in their video content sans purchase or fees, all in exchange for linking back to the artists and their music.

The announcement serendipitously arrived around world-renowned gaming convention TwitchCon, where Dim Mak boss and steadfast Twitch supporter Steve Aoki headlined TwitchCon’s Official Party in San Diego’s Petco Park this past Saturday, October 1st. During his performance, Steve Aoki announced his ownership in the Las Vegas eSports organization, ROGUE. Having been a lifelong gamer, Steve Aoki became determined to build an eSports team after his experience at PAX East in April of this year, where he was invited to participate in a Street Fighter V exhibition match. He has been involved in eSports since his first introduction to Twitch after having hosted the platform's first non-gaming livestream, his performance at Pacha in Ibiza back in 2015.

Both Aoki and Dim Mak now have official Twitch channels from which they regularly broadcast music and gaming-oriented live streams. For instance, Dim Mak has recently hosted live streams from their downtown Los Angeles headquarters that pair up DJs with well-known gamers such as IIJERiiCHOII, Reynad27 and TheZombiUnicorn. With deep roots in the community, including spearheading his own mobile game Beat Bomb, Aoki aims to provide gamers with new ways to further enliven their experience via music.

“I game on Twitch, I stream music on Twitch, and I played TwitchCon, so I’m beyond excited to take this next step with gamers. Giving the Twitch community unbridled access to this great music we curate for the New Noise imprint is part of Dim Mak’s ongoing mission to promote new artists and new sounds. Some of today’s most exciting young producers are releasing on New Noise, and allowing copyright free access to this music for Twitch gamers will not only help these new artists quickly build a fanbase - it will also take the gamers’ streams to the next level.” – Steve Aoki
