Berlin Fashion Week: Porsche Design Fall / Winter 2016

Porsche Design Plans to Become Leading Premium Brand for Casual Elegance and Functionality in Men’s Fashion

The sports-lifestyle brand will show its new Fall/Winter 2016 Fashion Collection in Berlin. The focus will be on smart-casual, cool looks for the global business traveller. French-Canadian Pierre Costin becomes new Fashion Creative Director at Porsche Design.

Casual yet elegant designs for the global business traveller. With its new Fall/Winter Fashion Collection, Porsche Design is focusing on the needs of the modern man. At the same time, the brand Porsche Design Woman will offer creations for confident women, featuring masculine style elements and yet a wholly feminine look. “Sophistication” — outstanding quality and high value down to the smallest details; comfort, and cool, casual elegance — these are the main features of the new collection. Designed for people who want to relax on the plane, and then go straight to their meetings from the airport, remaining perfectly styled throughout. For those whose unobtrusive, smart-casual style demonstrates their confidence in all situations. Porsche Design intentionally combines formal elements with cooler, more casual style elements inspired from the world of sneakers.

A great example of this season's new style for Porsche Design can be found in the casual and distinctive Porsche Design “zip-out blazers”, which have easily-removable integrated light down elements, allowing flexible use across different climate zones.

Starting with the selection of materials and fabrics, right down to the ingenious details, new Fashion Creative Director Pierre Costin focusses on the technical, functional qualities of the design, thus underlining the position of Porsche Design as a leader in the men’s fashion casual premium segment. Eye-catchingly positioned colour details, and structural elements as subtle references the motor sport that is in the DNA of Porsche Design emphasise the modernity of the look. Apart from its striking visuals, the collection is characterised by the use of innovative fabrics and new technical workmanship to add special functional performance qualities; such as with the elegant, waterproof, reversible business coat, produced with the aid of laser cutting.

VIKTOR LUNA SS16 X LAVERNE COX

For Spring Summer 2016, Viktor Luna reveals yet another way of crafting modern fashion in his collection, NEW ERA. One cannot design for the future without looking to the past; in this case, the Sumerians served as a point of reference, with a signature integration of a futuristic, urban edge. Metallics and high-gloss finishes conjure a feeling of glamour and electricity present in the 1970’s disco age. Tailored leather jackets layer atop multidimensional sartorial vesture. Pleated liquid lame is present in conceptual gowns as the technique cascades into more ready-to-wear styles, such as skirts and trench coats for both men and women.

This season, Luna creates a collaborative art film with Director, Sophy Holland, featuring the artists and performers who have supported his brand throughout his career. Names such as Laverne Cox, Jackie Cruz, Jonte Moaning, Leo Pelligrino and Samantha Diaz make appearances, alongside models such as Trevor Shapiro and Ashley Kolodner. [Laverne Cox fans] this video is everything! Great energy, choreography, music, cameos by Viktor Luna himself and of course, amazing fashion & style!

Spring Summer 2016 will also mark the first season that Viktor Luna will be showcasing accessories, collaborating with leading footwear designer Zach Lo and celebrity eyewear designer A-Morir. The collection will be available in November 2015 on www.viktorluna.com and select retailers. Each piece in the collection is hand crafted at Viktor Luna’s NYC-based atelier.

Custom orders can be placed online at: www.viktorluna.com/shop.

Cityzen by Azin's Down to Earth Fashion

When genius meets style, the results can be beautiful as in the Citizen by Azin "Down to Earth Fashion" collection.

Many air passengers gain a new appreciation of the world when viewed from 30,000 feet in the sky. Cityzen by Azin designer Azin Valy uses NASA satellite imagery of cities from around the world printed on the finest fabrics and materials to create women’s and men’s apparel and accessories. The process merges art, culture, geography, fashion and photography into high concept global style.

New York City-based Azin utilizes her award-winning architectural expertise from her previous career to match topographical details in the NASA imagery to specific details on her designs.  The Tiber River curves and forms the neckline of the “Rome” dress. The Zagros mountain range becomes the gathered neckline of the “Teheran” dress. Closer to home, the George Washington Bridge straddles the left and right side of the “New York” dress connecting the New York and New Jersey sides. Other locations include Chicago, Dallas, Miami and Los Angeles. International travelers can experience Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Rio di Janeiro, Cairo, Dhaka, London, Istanbul and many others from an entirely new perspective.

According to Azin, “Cityzen blends the human form with the urban landscape to link people to the places they love the most.” Each item includes a hangtag with a mini-map and travel guide to the hippest places and events in the city represented in the design. In Paris, as an example, the tag recommends visiting the Maison de Verre, one of Corbusier’s greatest houses and hearing Django’s music played at La Chope des Puces.

Cityzen by Azin is available from the Cityzen online shop at www.cityzenbyazin.com and at select specialty stores in Chicago, Pittsburgh, Washington, DC, New York, New Jersey and around the country.

RAGTRADE ATLANTA 2015 RECAP

PHOTOS: Kennyatta Collins. Fashion Photographer for Premier XI Photography

The Atlanta fashion scene exploded at last week's second annual RAGTRADE ATLANTA fashion event. Five emerging designers, accompanied by two student designers from the Art Institute of Atlanta, a Ragtrade partner, presented impressive and exciting runway collections. Art Institute designers, Zonia Santander and Andre Bryson gave us a glimpse of the talent within the Art Institute of Atlanta with a mini-collection of five sensational looks each. Brendan M Combs opened the designer showcase with an edgy and futuristic collection, followed by the chic and sophisticated style of Sylvia Mollie. Returning Ragtrade designer, Natt Taylor wowed the audience with her asymmetrical peplums and Zachary/Nathaniel took us to a place of dark glamour and haunted beauty. Closing the runway, Edmond Newton, who is killing it on the current season of Project Runway, gave us one sleeved looks, sheers and flowing dresses. America's Next Top Model, Bello Sanchez and his baby blues, graced the runway for both Brendan M Combs and Zachary/Nathaniel.

Ragtrade Atlanta is leaving its mark on the city and earning its place as a valuable resource for emerging design talent through a series of year-round industry events. The Ragtrade Atlanta showcase on October 14th held at the Georgia Freight Depot was a sold-out event. It brought together a diverse group of designers, sponsors, partners and guests, proving that fashion is global, transcending boundaries, unifying lives and embracing differences. Ragtrade Atlanta was a celebration of fashion, art and culture. Keep an eye on them as they continue to grow and evolve, Ragtrade Atlanta may very well be "Fashion's Next Voice."

Brunello Cucinelli Spring 2016 Menswear

If I could only use one word to describe the Brunello Cucinelli 2016 menswear collection, that word would be "perfection." Cucinelli takes a casual, sporty and chic approach to this collection. The looks are styled to perfection, just like the fit. What I am most obsessed with are the pants. All trousers, draw string pants and denim have a specific cut for a specific fit. They offer one pleat, making them slightly roomier at the thigh but continue to taper down the leg. Most are cuffed and ride on the ankle. It's the details that matter.
