House of Z - The Zac Posen Documentary

I think it's a fair assessment to say that Zac Posen has become a household name. If you don't know his brand of elegant and sophisticated womenswear, then surely you know him as a permanent judge with Project Runway.

As a young and extremely talented twenty-one year old, Zac Posen rocketed to stardom within the fashion industry - one of fashion's golden boys. His red carpet looks were showstoppers and graced A-list celebs like Gywneth Paltrow and Kate Winslet. But as we all know, what goes up, eventually must come down and golden Zac was not exempt.

This documentary, directed by Sandy Chronopoulos, will premiere on Vogue.com on September 6 and will take us through the highs and lows of Zac Posen's career.

I am obsessed with Zac Posen's Fall 2014 collection. It is stunning and breathtaking. The gowns, the capes, cocktail dresses and tweed suits represent incredible elegance and masterful skill. Zac Posen is in a league of his own when it comes to the New York fashion scene. And I respect that. And, at the moment, mesmerized by the exquisiteness and beauty of this collection. Impeccable construction paired with a creative vision epitomizes flawless sophistication.

PROJECT RUNWAY SEASON 12 WINNER!

Dom Streater wins season 12 of Project Runway [my pick!] in what had to be one of the strongest runway finale shows ever and undoubtedly one of the toughest for the judges. The boys, Bradon and Justin presented good collections but the judges felt they weren't "ready" just yet. Alexandria also had an amazing collection and could have won Project Runway just as well. But at the end, and much to my happiness, Dom took the top prize! Let's have a look at her collection:

She made her own prints, isn't afraid of color and used innovative textiles. Dom brings a youthful, edgy and sophisticated  point of view to the table. I agree with Zac Posen when he said that Dom doesn't even realize it. A strong statement because it implies that her talent is pure.

Project Runway, you guys got it right! I'm a happy blogger this morning.

*TUNE in next Thursday for the Season 12 reunion show and hold on for an all new season of Project Runway ALL STARS!

Let the fashion continue...

Project Runway "Glamping"

Project Runway goes "Glamping"

Last week's Project Runway had the stink of an unconventional challenge. The designers went camping [or "glamping" as they called it] so I immediately had horrific visions of dresses made from nature. You know, like twigs, dirt and leaves... Designer Kate had more of a

Survivor

mindset, suggesting they use their own blood for dying fabric. YUCK! Thankfully, none of the above occurred! The designers relaxed and enjoyed the day while seeking inspiration for design. The fabric came from MOOD!

Alexander's side-zipper gown was a judge's favorite for fit and style. It was beautiful and had a lot of stage presence. I loved the hand-painted branch-like design flowing through it which was inspired by the silhouette of trees at night. The only thing I didn't care for was the leathery textile used for the train. It felt forced and out of place. He should have kept it in the dress fabric.

Bradon struggled. Struggled. And struggled some more. His workroom visit from Tim didn't go well and he just couldn't make things work. I don't care for this piece one bit. It looks like college work. Bradon pulled it together enough to be safe.

Robbed, once again. Dom was "just" safe with this design. I love it. The neckpiece, the styling and execution were all elegant and excellent. I don't know what the judges are thinking.

Helen. Hmmmm? There are things I like and dislike about this dress. I like very much the shredded layered effect. Though I've seen it done better. Helen's been safe by default. She's out of her league. Oh and I hate the shoes!

I was pleasantly surprised with Miranda's dress. She seems to have gained a higher level of confidence ever since that idiot, unicorn-loving freak was aufed. Keep it up!

project-runway-glamping-fashionado
project-runway-glamping-fashionado

Jeremy wrote a love letter to his husband while on the glamping trip. He was so moved that he transcribed the romantic words to the fabric and created a biased cut dress. The judges went crazy over it. I threw up.

I'm not too sure about Kate's baby doll tulle dress, though it's great for the runway. What I am absolutely crazy about is the latex, patent-leathery harness top. Smokin' HOT!

Ken proved that he's just a bitch. I'm glad his dress was in the bottom and I hope his ass is gone asap. The first word out of Nina Garcia when she critiqued it: [spelled out] "B-O-R-I-N-G"...

project-runway-glamping-fashionado
project-runway-glamping-fashionado

Winning the challenge, much to Ken's despise, was Alexandria. Nina said the look was very editorial. Zac Posen, who is NOT a fan of drop-crotch pants was won over by these. As was Tim. The judges raved about how modern and edgy the overall design was and praised Alexandria for taking the risk.

Turn on the waterworks. Justin, who may possibly be the sweetest Project Runway contestant ever, was sent home over this one. He experimented (and failed) with creating a lace-like substance out of hot glue. Nina Garcia was on a rampage last week with one-liners and referred to the "lace" and it's placement as a "foaming vagina"... eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!! I threw up again, thanks for the visual Nina!

When Justin, in tears, returned to backstage to announce he was out, everyone gathered around him for a big group hug. Everyone was crying. I was crying. In the history of Project Runway, I have never seen anything like this before. Tim Gunn, also crying, saved the day. Well, actually, he saved Justin from elimination! Tim used his vote and vetoed the judge's decision.

Ready-to-Wear Roses on Project Runway

Fashion came back to

Project Runway

last week! Thank goodness. As much as we loved the nakedness of the Thunder from Down Under beefcake, we missed good clothing and good design. While they're still working in teams, the designers are being allowed to "express" themselves at the same time. It was the "ready-to-wear" challenge with

Lord & Taylor

as the client.

The theme:

To design a RTW look, to be sold in stores and online, inspired by the iconic L&T rose. Who came up smelling like roses and who got pricked by the thorns?

project-runway-lord-taylor-fashionado

Pretty. Patricia has proven to be a real player here. She's a little different, sometimes a little "off" yet she always manages to bring it home. This is a very nice look. Kudos to Patricia for not allowing her teammate's bitchiness and rudeness to affect her. Check yourself Stanley!

project-runway-lord-taylor-fashionado

Maybe if Stanley hadn't spent so much time being an asshole to Patricia, he could have focused on making an interesting dress.

project-runway-lord-taylor-fashionado

Speaking of bitches... Richard, WTF!?? You're a grown man, stop acting like a little girl. He designed this jersey maxi and okay, I like it. A lot. So did Heidi. The problem lies in the fact that he's done this before. Show us something new please.

project-runway-lord-taylor-fashionado

Layana's dress was naughty and nice. I loved the use of leather and the print on the skirt didn't bother me. However, the same print on the bodice was just way too much. I would have kept the top in a solid.

project-runway-lord-taylor-fashionado

This dress would give me a stomach ache except it makes me think of Pepto Bismol and then I feel better. You know its BAD when the best thing a judge could say is "nice shoulders." I'm actually surprised that

Zac Posen

nor

Rachel Roy

grilled Daniel on the sloppy construction around the slit and the hem! I'm ready for Daniel to go home. I want to enjoy the dramatic meltdown he'll probably have on the runway.

project-runway-lord-taylor-fashionado
project-runway-lord-taylor-fashionado

Poor choices... Samantha, who I was NOT ready to see go home, failed us (and herself) with this ruffled, layered tragedy. Her sketch was hot this dress was not! What happened? Maybe she didn't have enough time to stand back and edit?? There is too much going on with this look and not only does it come across as junior, but also cheap.

project-runway-lord-taylor-fashionado

If

Tim Gunn

were straight, Michelle would need to put out because he gave her the win with his workroom wisdom. Tim talked her out of making a gloomy, hideous gray vest to go over the pretty chartreuse shift dress. This outfit is such a winner! I've heard it's already sold out at Lord & Taylor.
