Suit by Banana Republic / Photos by Tomas Espinoza Photography

Nothing compares to a well-fitted suit. It's the difference between good and bad style. Regardless of whatever your career may be, a sharp dressed man is unstoppable.

Because I like an edgier look, the pants are hemmed higher than "normal." You don't have to do that. The suit, as you can see, is a good fit - you can't go wrong with Banana Republic! I wanted a clean, crisp feel, so I chose a tailored-fit white dress shirt from Brooks Brothers. The shoes are  Italian leather wingtips by Roberto Guerrini, the silk pocket square from Century 21 in NYC and the bowtie, vintage.

Looks of Summer OOTD

Summer is hot but you don't have to be. No one loves dressing in layers more than I do but the sweltering southern heat will have you melting faster than MacArthur's Park. Keep it cool this summer. Like this...

A light chambray, short sleeve shirt, with just a hint of Western from H&M, does the trick and shows off the ink. Keeping my wallet cool, the slacks are from H&M too. Try color for a stylish twist. Everyone likes a good POP. The white shoes (with navy stitching) by Cole Haan add a clean, crisp flair to my look. And guys, loafers, while they're always in style, are really on trend this summer. So slip into a pair. NO socks! The bag is Etro and the shades, Dolce & Gabbana

Art Gallery Style OOTD

E. Vincent Martinez fashionado

I went to my first art gallery opening as a junior in high school - that was a long time agoooo. I stood next to artist Larry Rivers, not realizing (at the time) his contributions to contemporary art. I did however pay attention to his style. It was a unkempt but deliberate. Some thought went into his look. I was especially drawn to his shoes. They were sneakers, Adidas maybe, not sure because he had spray painted them with a bronze metallic [and it was more than 30 years ago!]... But, they were so fucking cool.... that, I remember. So, what's my point? The take away is this: break the rules, change it up, mix-n-match, push the envelope, think outside the box, anything goes, express yourself, be quirky, be whimsical and most of all, have fun with style when gallery hopping. Or always.

Casual. Fun. Polished. OOTD

Relaxed and comfortable can still be stylish. [And should be!] If your mind goes to t-shirts, shorts & flip-flops, then you better take note! While my outfit had a tailored fit, nothing felt tight or restraining. And most importantly, I felt good!

DEMI STYLES

... and this is How I DO My Style

I've been doing "it" this way for years and there's no real science to it. I simply place clothing on my bed and play match-maker with an ensemble. I usually start with one article of clothing that I def want to wear and I style the outfit around that. In this case it was the gray sweater vest. I wanted to dress up the look so I passed on wearing jeans and opted for navy trousers. A fitted blazer, Gucci loafers and a silk pocket square completed the look. Because I was wearing grays and blues, this was an "easy" outfit to style. Matching up colors, prints and patterns elevate the challenge. We'll talk about that some other time. For now, the take away is to work around a single piece of clothing and build from there. Oh and lay things out. Standing in your closet thumbing through hangers and hangers (and they better be wooden btw!) can overwhelm.

[my look: blazer-austin reed; vest-thom browne brooks brothers; shirt-7camicie; pocket square-century 21.]

Let's push the envelope a bit with

green on green. As long as it's not

obvious

that you were actually trying to match two shades of the

same

color, you're in the

safe

zone!

Break

up the shades by adding a

colored

neutral, like

chambray

or

brown

and you're good to go!
