Tim Gunn Surprises Crowd with Major Project Runway Announcement

This past Sunday, Project Runway host and mentor, Tim Gunn, surprised an audience of 6,000 Avon Beauty Bosses (independent sales Reps) in Nashville at their annual RepFest Convention to announce a key partnership for the upcoming season.

Avon will serve as the official beauty sponsor for Lifetime’s critically-acclaimed and Emmy nominated design competition series for season 16. Gunn was on hand to share details about the partnership, including how Avon will be releasing behind-the-scenes content on the brand’s social channels to help viewers create "runway to reality" looks at home. With a team led by makeup artist Hector Simancas, Avon will be creating the makeup look on models helping to bring the contestants' visions to life.

“Avon is legendary in the beauty world,” said Gunn during his remarks. “It is a brand that embodies the values of freedom, inspiration and empowerment, which are core to Project Runway’s mission of inspiring up-and-coming fashion entrepreneurs. We can’t wait to debut Avon beauty on our catwalk, with simply stunning and wildly creative applications that perfect each designer look. Get ready to tune-in to another exciting season, and learn how to replicate each runway-inspired look with Avon!”

Project Runway Season 14 Begins TONIGHT

project runway season 14

Nina Garcia will make you cry warns Heidi Klum to the Project Runway contestants about season 14. Well, I don't know, Heidi can be pretty scary herself! It's all in good fun (and ratings!) And we love it...

Can you believe that Project Runway is entering its fourteenth season? That's amazing. Kudos. I'm sure there will be plenty of drama and one-liners, shockers and stunners, but at the end of the day, it's about the fashion and from the looks of it (watch video) the fashion looks incredible this season!

Project Runway Season 14 begins tonight at 9PM/8c on Lifetime. I'll be watching and tweeting. Join me!

Under the Gunn Tonight

Tim Gunn has an entire season to make it work, though I don't think he'll need it. I'm sure his new fashion reality show on Lifetime, which premieres tonight at 9PM, will be a hit from the start. We'll be watching, will you?

For the past few weeks I've been seeing tv commercials for "Under the Gunn," a new reality show coming to Lifetime in January and starring Tim Gunn. My question is can he make it work?! Let's see...

Under the Gunn

will feature emerging fashion designers, celebrity judges and workroom mentors... Hmmm...I just described

Project Runway

.

Am I going to watch? You betcha, I

love

Tim Gunn!

Project Runway "Glamping"

Project Runway goes "Glamping"

Last week's Project Runway had the stink of an unconventional challenge. The designers went camping [or "glamping" as they called it] so I immediately had horrific visions of dresses made from nature. You know, like twigs, dirt and leaves... Designer Kate had more of a

Survivor

mindset, suggesting they use their own blood for dying fabric. YUCK! Thankfully, none of the above occurred! The designers relaxed and enjoyed the day while seeking inspiration for design. The fabric came from MOOD!

Alexander's side-zipper gown was a judge's favorite for fit and style. It was beautiful and had a lot of stage presence. I loved the hand-painted branch-like design flowing through it which was inspired by the silhouette of trees at night. The only thing I didn't care for was the leathery textile used for the train. It felt forced and out of place. He should have kept it in the dress fabric.

Bradon struggled. Struggled. And struggled some more. His workroom visit from Tim didn't go well and he just couldn't make things work. I don't care for this piece one bit. It looks like college work. Bradon pulled it together enough to be safe.

Robbed, once again. Dom was "just" safe with this design. I love it. The neckpiece, the styling and execution were all elegant and excellent. I don't know what the judges are thinking.

Helen. Hmmmm? There are things I like and dislike about this dress. I like very much the shredded layered effect. Though I've seen it done better. Helen's been safe by default. She's out of her league. Oh and I hate the shoes!

I was pleasantly surprised with Miranda's dress. She seems to have gained a higher level of confidence ever since that idiot, unicorn-loving freak was aufed. Keep it up!

project-runway-glamping-fashionado

Jeremy wrote a love letter to his husband while on the glamping trip. He was so moved that he transcribed the romantic words to the fabric and created a biased cut dress. The judges went crazy over it. I threw up.

I'm not too sure about Kate's baby doll tulle dress, though it's great for the runway. What I am absolutely crazy about is the latex, patent-leathery harness top. Smokin' HOT!

Ken proved that he's just a bitch. I'm glad his dress was in the bottom and I hope his ass is gone asap. The first word out of Nina Garcia when she critiqued it: [spelled out] "B-O-R-I-N-G"...

project-runway-glamping-fashionado

Winning the challenge, much to Ken's despise, was Alexandria. Nina said the look was very editorial. Zac Posen, who is NOT a fan of drop-crotch pants was won over by these. As was Tim. The judges raved about how modern and edgy the overall design was and praised Alexandria for taking the risk.

Turn on the waterworks. Justin, who may possibly be the sweetest Project Runway contestant ever, was sent home over this one. He experimented (and failed) with creating a lace-like substance out of hot glue. Nina Garcia was on a rampage last week with one-liners and referred to the "lace" and it's placement as a "foaming vagina"... eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!! I threw up again, thanks for the visual Nina!

When Justin, in tears, returned to backstage to announce he was out, everyone gathered around him for a big group hug. Everyone was crying. I was crying. In the history of Project Runway, I have never seen anything like this before. Tim Gunn, also crying, saved the day. Well, actually, he saved Justin from elimination! Tim used his vote and vetoed the judge's decision.

Project Runway "Wearable Art" Challenge

project-runway-art-challenge-fashionado

How fabulous is the Guggenheim? Of course it is, designed by the masterful Frank Lloyd Wright, the space is as magnificent as the masterpieces it houses. So it was quite appropriate that the Guggenheim would serve as the source of inspiration for

Project Runway's

"wearable art" challenge. The popular HP + Intel fabric challenge was integrated, heightening the level of creativity from the designers. Naturally, some did better with it than others. They are still working in teams and the only contribution "teams" are making to Project Runway at this point in the competition is making drama. One team member designed the art look while the other made a commercial counterpart.

Daniel was hit this week. He needed that because the last few challenges were (big) misses for him. [But] for me, he's done. Go home.

AUF!

I want to see nothing else from Daniel.

project-runway-art-challenge-fashionado

Layana was Daniel's team partner. She created this mess of a dress. The symbolism here, artistically speaking, is that the dress captured Layana's inexperience and lack of art / cultural references due to the fact that she's like 12. This isn't art. She created crap wrapped in tulle. Layana, you do not know better than Tim Gunn or the judges, acknowledge that missy.

project-runway-art-challenge-fashionado

And while you're at it Layana, learn from Michelle. Yes I know the dress is weird, but this was NOT the ready-to-wear look, Michelle's partner Stanley was working on that design. Michelle successfully created an artfully cohesive gown made out of leather and painted bubble wrap!

project-runway-art-challenge-fashionado

Patricia: EDIT! Too much is too much... I loved the bold graphic patterns she created and there are aspects of the dress that I appreciate, like the silhouette when I squint my eyes. But to say that the chiffon head piece made the model androgynous tells me that you are clueless! The model looks like abstract-expressionist tragic bride.

project-runway-art-challenge-fashionado

Richard went home, yay! Too bad he didn't go packing the challenge before this one because Samantha would have soared at the Guggenheim. Richard became such a pain in the ass about everything and everyone that it just consumed him and his abilities. His emotions overshadowed good design and behavior!

project-runway-art-challenge-fashionado

Stanley took the well-deserved win and $10K!! [I hope he gives Michelle a little bit of that cash!] The dress is hot. I love the shape, pleating, structure and styling. I was not a fan of the print, however.

We are down to 5 designers.... I'm pretty good at nailing the top three but I must admit, I'm having a little trouble this time around.

Who do you think will make the top list??
