Seán McGirr Named New Creative Director at Alexander McQueen

Seán McGirr, the former head of ready-to-wear at JW Anderson, has been appointed as the successor to Sarah Burton as the creative director of Alexander McQueen, a Kering-owned label. Burton, who had been with the brand for many years, announced her departure last month, with her final collection being presented for Spring/Summer 2024 during Paris Fashion Week. McGirr, a graduate of Central Saint Martins with an extensive fashion industry background, will be entrusted with leading the brand into its next phase, aiming to build upon the defining aesthetic established by Burton.

McGirr's impressive career includes notable positions such as leading womenswear at Dries Van Noten and being part of Uniqlo's creative offices in Tokyo and Paris. His experience and creative energy are expected to shape a new creative language for Alexander McQueen while staying true to the brand's unique heritage. The CEO of Alexander McQueen, Gianfilippo Testa, expressed excitement about McGirr's appointment, highlighting his potential to bring a powerful creative vision to the brand. Fraçois-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of Kering, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing their confidence in McGirr to steer Alexander McQueen into a new chapter while honoring its rich history.
