GRAMATIK & ERIC KRASNO RELEASE NEW SINGLE "RECOVERY"

gramatik eric krasno recovery edm

"It's got a vintage swing, sure, but the bass kicks are too future. Vocalist and guitarist Eric Krasno sings soulful inspiration to anyone who's struggling to get their mind, body, or heart back on the right track." - BILLBOARD

Eric Krasno is having some kind of year. The Grammy Award-winning songwriter, producer, guitarist, vocalist and label-head, celebrated for his work as a founding member of Soulive and Lettuce, has been playing sold out shows and major festivals across the U.S. in support of his acclaimed solo album, Blood From A Stone. The collection was released via his label, Feel Music, which has also delivered albums by The London Souls and Nigel Hall. Meanwhile, as a producer, his work with Aaron Neville, Lawrence, The Motet and others has only further established his reputation as one of the music world's most prolific, multi-dimensional artists.

With an epic 2016 behind him, Gramatik is in the midst of the next chapter, and 2017 is already just as wild. Last year he impressed fans and critics alike with the new album, Epigram and its subsequent remix EP featuring a number of Gramatik's favorite producers. To kick off 2017, Gramatik released a new collaboration with GRiZ, titled, "As We Proceed," that has clocked in over one million plays on Soundcloud since its January release.

Keeping the momentum going for both artists, Gramatik is now releasing another single entitled "Recovery," this time with with close friend and collaborator, vocalist/guitarist Eric Krasno. Out today via Gramatik's label Lowtemp, "Recovery" came into existence after a leg injury Gramatik sustained that required a break from his intense touring schedule. The time off the road allowed Gramatik to return his focus on writing, testing new ideas, and producing a host of new music. For "Recovery," the release has a more traditional arrangement than what we are generally used to in electronic dance music, so Gramatik made sure the tone of this one is set right from the get go. The track opens with a blissful, 50s' musical instrumentation, and then jumps right into the first verse with no long build-ups. Krasno was responsible for the straight-to-the-point lyrics that don't hide behind unnecessary metaphors, and he also provided the vocals, as well as, his signature guitar playing.

As for how the track came to be, Gramatik simply states "Kraz and I are in 'Recovery' from 'Torture'"—a reference to the pair's first collaboration together. According to Krasno, "Recovery" began as a part of his larger concept album until Gramatik got an ear on it: "'Recovery'" is a track I initially wrote as part of a concept album I've been working on (coming early 2018). Gramatik heard it and instantly wanted to work on it. He had been through an intense leg injury and really related to the hook of the song. He then flipped it on its head in the best way possible. I love working with him; his tracks always feel and sound amazing. We have also have a few more tracks in the works."

As for what's next, it's yet to be known what will become of the many tracks Gramatik created during his time off the road, but stay tuned as those hard-drives are sure to come to light. You can also catch Gramatik live around the world from Denver's Red Rocks Amphitheater to Paris' Zenith through fall 2017. Find all Gramatik tour dates here. For Krasno, he'll be touring with his band and gearing up for a Soulive residency (Bowlive) at Brooklyn Bowl in June. More info on Krasno's tour dates here.

Ferry Corsten releases Sci-Fi concept album Blueprint

ferry corsten sci-fi blueprint

For many music fans the art and craft of the album has been lost to a digital age, for others the vision of a concept album often lacks that atmosphere-enhancing quality. Dutch electronic music producer Ferry Corsten is an artist who shares this view. It is a view that has led him to complete his fifth and, by his own admission, most ambitious artist album to date. A true concept album conceived by a wilful passion to recode how the music delivers its story, Blueprint is a new LP that its architect sees as being “greater than the sum of its parts.”

Stimulated by an idea to unite the music with a storyline that stretches beyond a nebulous lyrical theme, Ferry wanted to explore his appreciation for the art of screenwriting and film scores, and bring to the project a wider-scaling approach. Drafting in acclaimed screenwriter David Harrington Miller (of House Of Cards and Rosewood fame), the pair worked closely on storyboarding a narrative to accompany the album’s conceptual direction. What results for the end listener is a body of work that is polished, synthesised and intellectual in its in conclusion.

With the storyline giving nods to the prose of iconic Sci-Fi authors such as Jules Verne, Hugo Gernsback and most distinctively HG Wells, whilst equally sharing familiarities with modern day shows such as The OA, Westworld and retro Sci-Fi-fest Stranger Things, Blueprint is an explorative piece of work that puts Sci-Fi at its interstellar core. Hollywood actor Campbell Scott (known for The Amazing Spider-Man and The Exorcism of Emily Rose) provides his voice as the narrative of the album flirts between first and third person narration. A unique output for one of the biggest names in the electronic scene, Blueprint brings a wider perspective to the listener and aims to be inclusive of dimensions of religion, history, idea and science fiction.

Blueprint is truly an explorative journey and one which the iconic producer is finally excited to be sharing. Already support by some of the biggest names in the galaxy such as Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz and Above & Beyond, Blueprint is out now via Ferry’s own label Flashover Recordings.

Watch this: ilan Bluestone ft. Giuseppe De Luca “Frozen Ground” official music video

The first single to be taken from his forthcoming debut artist album, “Frozen Ground” reunites ilan Bluestone with British singer / songwriter Giuseppe De Luca. Since joining Anjunabeats in 2011, ilan has been at the forefront of the evolving trance sound. With an ear for hooky instrumentals, organic chords and dance floor minded productions, the likes of “Big Ben,” “Spheres” and “43” became euphoric moments in DJ sets for acts such as Above & Beyond and Armin Van Buuren.

A prolific touring artist, ilan has headlined the Anjunabeats North American tour in 2016 and 2017 as well as joining Above & Beyond at Madison Square Garden and Sydney’s All Phones Arena.

The follow up to ilan and Giuseppe’s breakout hit “Bigger Than Love”, “Frozen Ground” was debuted during Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy 200 show in a sold out 13,000 capacity Ziggo Dome.

For Giuseppe, inspiration for the song came after he joined ilan on stage at EDC, “There’s something about witnessing a sea of people gathered together to feel something that really helps to warp the borders of reality. I had this Brechtian idea of a specific sound, that when heard, would snap the listener out of their everyday veneer and allow them to connect with who they truly are. On Frozen Ground, I feel that sound, forever."

Steve Aoki Remixes "The Best," by David Choe's Band Mangchi

steve aoki

Mangchi, the experimental punk outfit led by notorious artist David Choe, gets the remix treatment from friend and collaborator Steve Aoki. Aoki transforms “The Best" into a late night club record full of high-energy synths and deep basslines on this heavy 4/4 workout. The boastful vocals don’t lie when they say, “it’s the motherf*cking best.” The artwork for the release is an original piece by David Choe and features his signature Munko whales.

With punk rock roots and DIY attitudes, Choe and Aoki are the perfect dyad. Earlier this year, the two collaborated at January’s North American launch of the Dim Mak Collection (DMC) at New York Fashion Week. Several of Choe’s illustrations were incorporated onto items within the DMC Fall/Winter 2017 collection and his surrealistic punk band, Mangchi, performed live during the DMC NYFW17 presentation.

Through Choe’s unique lens, Mangchi’s explosion of art and noise is on full display in the video for “The Best (view here).” Mangchi is the Korean translation for the word “hammer;” according to a video-only press release, their sound can be described as “A fart from a child without a butthole.” The LA-based group features several talented musicians, including legendary keyboardist Money Mark (of the Beastie Boys.)

Steve Aoki is a Grammy-nominated international producer/DJ, electronic dance music entrepreneur, and founder of the trendsetting record label, events/lifestyle company and apparel line Dim Mak. During a monumental 2016, Aoki celebrated Dim Mak’s 20th anniversary through curated stages in 20 cities around the world and the release of a special edition compilation album. His sonic roots were on full display last year when he remixed songs by legendary emo and punk bands My Chemical Romance (“Black Parade”) and Blink-182 (“Bored to Death.”) Additionally, he earned his second Grammy nomination for the Best Music Film category for his Netflix original documentary I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, which chronicles his fast-paced life as a DJ/producer.

He closed 2016 by collaborating with One Direction member Louis Tomlinson on “Just Hold On," which debuted at #1 in 43 countries and has since achieved Gold or Platinum status in 18 countries. Aoki is currently promoting his latest single “Without U” off his forthcoming album. The track is a collaboration with DJ/producer duo DVBBS and features 2 Chainz.
