The Viktor & Rolf mascots, “are rooting for a world that is creative, diverse, and eco-conscious.”

Viktor & Rolf Fall 2017 Couture: “We thought reality is so weird at the moment, why not show the surreal side of reality,” said Rolf Snoeren, with Viktor Horsting suggesting that “these [action dolls] are fighting for a better world” via the patchwork symbolizing unity.

Viktor & Rolf Couture Spring 2016

“Fashion artists,” Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren created a collection to make Picasso proud. And Matisse. And possibly maybe Modigliani. This may be Viktor & Rolf's most artistically literal and referential collection to date. The all-white couture assemblages embraced the cubist art movement in the form of wearable art. Once again, Viktor & Rolf got a chance to showoff their ridiculous sculptural skills. It's really mind-blowing. (And mesmerizing!) Towards the end of the collection, the models were consumed by the clothing, covering the faces and towering over their head. Moda Operandi will be carrying a capsule collection of these pieces, though I am pretty sure they'll be modified but nonetheless fabulous.

And being the geniuses that they are, they presented a stunning and impressive collection, appropriately tilted "Wearable Art." For many years, I have said Viktor & Rolf are artists and this collection substantiated my claim. What began as a runway collection of elaborately draped and sculpted dresses, ended as gilded paintings on a gallery wall. This "performance" unfolded as the audience watched. Viktor & Rolf quickly removed the garment from the model, hinged the frames together and hung the artwork on a wall. Perfection. The last image shows the designers with their painted dresses on display.

Viktor & Rolf Spring 2015 Couture

I've had a fascination with Viktor & Rolf for many years. I have often said they are artists working in the medium of fashion. Their designs are like moving, breathing sculpture on the runway and Spring's Couture collection is no exception. From the looks of it, Uncle Karl wasn't the only designer playing in the garden this season. Viktor & Rolf's blooms blossomed into colorful, voluminous silhouettes. Babydoll dresses with beautiful graphic floral prints, straw hats and flip flops...
