In his Spring/Summer 2024 NYFW collection, LaQuan Smith expressed a focus on balance and what he called "sci-fi glamour." This season, he made a dedicated effort to define the LaQuan Smith man's wardrobe while maintaining his signature style of sparkle, shimmer, and shine. The runway show took place at Essex Crossing and featured a star-studded front row, including celebrities like Saweetie, Laverne Cox, Mary J. Blige, Summer Walker, and Offset.
The collection started with classic LaQuan Smith designs, featuring shiny purple cropped jackets, teal dresses, and skin-bearing silhouettes suitable for a night out in New York. However, the tone of the collection shifted with the introduction of menswear looks, starting with a sheer deep-blue polo paired with high denim shorts and a black belt. The menswear continued with light-grey jackets, transparent tops, utilitarian trousers with multiple zippers, and built-in knee pads.
Throughout the collection, LaQuan Smith blended his signature womenswear elements with new codes for masculine dressing. He incorporated boldly shaped skirts, intergalactic dresses, armor-like jackets with dramatic shoulders, and metallic silver jackets worn over short-shorts. The menswear pieces included a range of outfits, including a men's blazer, white button-up shirt with concealed buttons, and opulent silver chain tops paired with baggy trousers with numerous pockets.
