Compass of Greater Atlanta Supports 2022 High Museum Wine Auction
Celebrating its 30th annual event this year, the High Museum Atlanta Wine Auction (March 24-26) raised more than $3 million to support the Museum’s special exhibitions, education, and public programs. Over the course of three days, the Auction welcomed more than 2,500 attendees, and 870 guests participated in the Live Auction, held on March 26.
Co-chaired by Katie Johnson and Caryl Smith, the 2022 Auction celebrated art, wine, and friends with a milestone year of tasting seminars, the High Revelry evening soiree, Friday’s Uncorked gala, Winemaker Dinners, Ladies and Gents luncheons, silent and live auctions, and the Vintners’ Reception.
“We’re all so grateful that we could gather in person this year to celebrate and support the Museum’s commitment to serving Atlanta,” said Rand Suffolk, Nancy and Holcombe T. Green, Jr., director of the High. “The remarkable generosity of our supporters is both humbling and inspiring, and I can’t begin to thank them enough for their confidence and ongoing investment in the High.”
Seasoned winemaker Paula Kornell, owner of Paula Kornell Sparkling Wine, was the 2022 Special Guest of Honor. Mashama Bailey, an award-winning chef, and co-founder of the critically acclaimed The Grey in Savannah, Georgia, was the Auction’s 2022 Special Guest Chef. The Auction featured 52 live lots and 99 silent lots, which included luxurious trips to renowned vineyards across the globe, carefully crafted dinners with acclaimed chefs, and exclusive access to a variety of wines. The Museum raised approximately $1.2 million through the live and silent auctions and collected nearly $100,000 from the 17th annual Paddle Raise, which supports arts education and the High’s Art Access programs.
“Compass of Greater Atlanta is proud to be a community partner and supporter of this extraordinary fundraising event. As the exclusive “Paddle” sponsor for the auction, we are honored as a local real estate service provider to be able to share in the experience of excitement and philanthropy for Atlanta,” said Alex Page, who leads the regional Luxury Division for Compass.
The top live auction lot, “Winemakers & Players at Altitude . . . in the new TK Elevator Innovation & Qualification Test Tower in The Battery Atlanta, raised a total of $122,000. The winning couples will enjoy a three-hour wine and food extravaganza with Atlanta Braves alumni in the Western Hemisphere’s tallest elevator test tower. Donated by Paula Kornell, Chef Chris Hall, Barrell Craft Spirits, and Monday Night Brewing, “Mother Cluckers Fabulous Bubbles Fiesta” raised $105,000. Winners of this lot will enjoy an old-fashioned Southern fried chicken feast with bubbles, whiskey, beer, and more. Rounding out the top lots was “Sunday Soiree!,” which raised a total of $50,000. Winning couples will enjoy an afternoon by the pool at the home of Kelly and Rod Westmoreland, featuring food tastings from Chef Steven Satterfield of Miller Union and Chef Kristen Essig of Dauphine’s in Washington, D.C., and wines poured by Jasmine Hirsch of Hirsch Vineyards and Michael Cruse of Cruse Wine Co.
The 2022 Wine Auction was made possible with support from Presenting Sponsor Delta Air Lines and Grand Cru Sponsor Merrill and Westmoreland Group Private Wealth Management.
