"Face For Grace" American Flag

Portrait by Sheila Pree Bright

When Nic Miller of the Gray Miller West Art Gallery asked me to stop by for a photo a few Saturdays back he failed to mention that it was going to be part of such a significant project by artist/photographer Sheila Pree Bright.  The "Face For Grace" campaign started with a video interview where I answered questions about what freedom meant to me. Later, Sheila handed me the American flag. She handled it with pride and respect as she placed it on my receiving hands. Her instruction for the shoot was to do whatever you felt most represented you and your feelings about freedom. I didn't need to think about it. I knew. I moved my arms vigorously from left to right and back again. Over and over. "My" flag is free. Has lots of movement, is full of life, is welcoming and embraces humanity. This photograph was our end result and is a part of Sheila's Project 1960. Happy Fourth of July.

Through the Photographic Lens of Kevin Maurice Photography

Charleston based photographer, Kevin Maurice has a masterful eye for wedding, fashion and lifestyle photography. His portraits are artistically skillful, sometimes playful and always stylish. I'm delighted to feature his work on fashionado but make sure and check out his website too for a full gallery of his amazing work!

My photographic journey started as a young teen leaving home for the first time. Until that point in my life, the 5 boroughs that make up New York City was all I'd ever known. I was determined to find life outside of the city, record it, and return to view it with my friends and family. What started as an innocent project turned into a lifelong passion. Capturing memories to return to them later. Today, "Capturing moments" would be an understatement. I MAGNIFY moments and capture the smallest of details for my clients. Although I photograph a wide range of portrait, and fashion, wedding photography is something that I truly love. My approach is often casual, fun. While a lot of my inspiration comes from travel, art, nature and fashion, I'm also guided by the needs of my clients. ~ Kevin Maurice

Dream Cars at the High Museum

vincent martinez dream cars

"This is an exhibit about ideas," said Sarah Schleuning, Curator of Decorative Arts and Design at the High Museum of Art. You could feel her enthusiasm and hear it in her voice during a fashionadoTV interview earlier this week. And rightfully so. Not only is Dream Cars an exquisite collection of "concept cars" that may potentially never be all in the same room again, but it's also an exhibition close and dear to Sarah's heart as she's worked for three years to make it happen.

Dream Cars High Museum

Forget the two-seater and soar with this 1950's Firebird!

There are seventeen vehicles in Dream Cars and every time Sarah and I walked up to the next car, I'd say, "this is my favorite." I seriously couldn't choose! They are all so magnificent. Individually, they hold their own as strong, innovative ideas. Evidence that dreaming is limitless. As a collection, Dream Cars will blow you away.

What's your Dream Car?

Dream Cars at the High Museum!

When I first learned that the High Museum of Art was featuring an exhibition of concept cars, my videographer, Gil and I got weak at the knees. No joke!

We are huge car enthusiasts. [You should have seen us in Cuba gawking over the classics which were everywhere.] I, mostly for the design, but Gil gets into the engine and mechanics as well. He's such a guy.

It was in January that we scheduled our interview with the High's curator of Decorative Arts. And then, we tried to "forget" about it, as to keep the excitement under control... well, we're about to unleash it tomorrow! Excitement doesn't begin to describe how we feel about this exhibit.

FashionadoTV is filming a segment in the morning and what makes the day sweeter is that the High is closed to the public on Mondays so we'll have the place to ourselves. And staff. And security. Doubt I'll be able to sneak a touch?!

Save-the-Date AUG 8 Penland, NC

penland school auction

This photo is spectacular! The scene: Penland's Annual Benefit Auction. Last night I attended a cocktail party to celebrate (and introduce) this event to art lovers, supporters and collectors in Atlanta. Penland Director Jean McLaughlin, artist Julia Woodman and I spoke passionately about the magic of this incredible place. The short film about the annual auction and the making of the signature piece - a stunning, sterling martini shaker & tray- played throughout the evening. Watch it here. What's the Penland Auction all about? In their words:

The Penland School of Crafts Annual Benefit Auction is a gala weekend in the North Carolina Mountains featuring the sale of more than 240 works in books, clay, drawing, glass, iron, letterpress, metals, painting, photography, printmaking, textiles, and wood. The Penland auction is one of the most important craft collecting events in the Southeast and a perfect opportunity to support Penland's educational programs, which have helped thousands of people live creative lives.

This is truly an event like no other. Trust me. Been there. AMAZING! For more information, visit the Penland website, here.
