Viktor & Rolf 2011 Fall
Viktor & Rolf never disappoint.
I have been following their collections season after season for a number of years and their artistic vision doesn't fail to blow my mind season after season.
Viktor & Rolf round off my [personal] top list of fashion designers [especially after tragically losing one genius to suicide and another to an insanity!] Their endless experimentation and perpetual creativity are an influential force in the world of art and fashion.
The inspiration for the Viktor & Rolf Fall Collection was "knight's armor" and even featured the models sporting blood-red painted faces. Some of the pieces are clearly for runway purposes only while many others are wearable - or will be by the time they hit retailers.
Black, ecru, silver and splashes of red comprised the color palette. A drawbridge-like structure was lowered unto the runway as the first model made her exit and was raised at the end of the show after the designers took their bow.
Going to battle and "protection" was on their minds. The structured leather and felted wool garments represented a beautified battle regalia of sorts. Perhaps, the looks were too conceptual for some, but for me it was like art on stilettos.
