The Met-inspired Todd Snyder Artist Collaboration
THE MET X TODD SNYDER
Todd Snyder's pivot from fashion and footwear to fine art with The Met is quite the collaboration. Todd Snyder drew inspiration from renowned artists like Édouard Manet, Edgar Degas, and Vincent Van Gogh to create a diverse 12-piece collection, including items like chore coats, puffer jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts, and scarves.
It's touching to hear Snyder's personal connection to art through his mother's influence and his experience studying art history at the Fashion Institute of Technology. “To be able to work with The Met is a huge honor. My mother was an artist and an art teacher and I can remember going to the Museum when I was taking art history classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology,” said Snyder.
And the fact that Snyder looked to specific artworks such as Van Gogh's Self-Portrait with a Straw Hat, Irises, Olive Trees, and Wheat Field with Cypresses, alongside Degas's View of Saint-Valéry-sur-Somme, says a great deal about the depth and richness of this collaboration.
Having the collection available in select Todd Snyder stores, online, and even at The Met's Fifth Avenue store gives art enthusiasts and fashion aficionados alike the opportunity to appreciate and acquire these inspired pieces. It's a great way to bring art beyond the museum walls and into everyday life.
