Project PROM Dreams Come True

project-prom-ellery-webb-for-the-kid-in-all-of-us-vincent-martinez-atlanta-fashionadoThe remarkable folks at For the Kid In All of Us wanted a signature event of the caliber of their other two famous Atlanta staples, Toy Party and Back Pack in the Park, and it looks like they got it in Project Prom.

The concept: to repurpose [not very attractive & dated] prom and bridesmaid dresses; to modernize and beautify.

The cause: to donate the dresses to agencies serving under-privileged teens so they may go to prom.

I partnered with SCAD’s Jason Bunin and EDL’s Karron English to produce the dresses and though we had our challenges with sequins and beads, at the end, all dresses sparkled with glamour.

Authentic Beauty, The Green Room Agency and Mint Salon, out did themselves giving us the most spectacular hair and make up on the runway.

Event Host, 97.1fm The River’s Kaedy Keily was a sensational emcee and Miss Georgia Christina McCauley granted her support on the runway and to the cause. (more…)

Project PROM

project-prom-kaedy-kiely-vincent-martinez-fashionadoAs an educator at Grady High School, I have been to prom for the past eight years.  For most students, especially the girls, it’s a very special night full of glamour. But for girls facing socioeconomic hardships, prom is sadly a privilege they can’t afford. When I was presented with a partnership opportunity to create an event that would raise awareness of the struggles of under-privileged students while providing prom dresses to girls in need, the decision was a no-brainer, especially because I could involved my students.

I wanted to collaborate with fashion students from other places as well, so I contacted an old friend and a new friend. Karron English of English Design Lab and Jason Bunin, SCAD Atlanta fashion faculty have been fantastic to work with on Project Prom. They are both accomplished designers with giving heart(s).
