The Phoenix Sleeve

The Phoenix is the symbol for Scorpio. It represents death and rebirth. [I learned this through my astrologer.] All of my tattoos have a personal significance so by making them self-referential my ink gains deeper meaning. As I embark on a new career and shed the old one, hence, – death and rebirth- a Phoenix sleeve couldn’t be more appropriate. The very gifted Malia Reynolds, at Memorial Tattoo, has done all my ink. StylemagVM is documenting the creation of the sleeve, from start to finish, so you’ll get an opportunity to see just how talented Malia is. Watch it happen!

Birdie gets Inked

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

This past week, I had the fourth tattoo session for the full sleeve on my right arm. The masterful Malia Reynolds charmed her talents on the “birdie” and the sky surrounding it. The bird, which is the Trogon, is the National bird of Cuba and the orchid-like flowers, called mariposas, are the National flower.

Memorial Tattoo feels like home these days. Phil Colvin, Memorial’s owner and Lee at the front desk, welcome everyone with smiles. The other artists pop in for visits and chats. A truly friendly environment – which is important because you want to feel at ease while getting tattooed.

I’ve been teaching myself to use iMovie. I hope you enjoy my latest 3 minute presentation. Malia does her thing! Note: One of Malia’s talents is her speed. She’s fast, however, I sped up the footage dramatically, to give Malia super-speed! (and to keep the video from being 2 hours long)

Gardenias for Grandmother

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

It was only fitting that my first tattoo be in honor of my beloved grandmother. Though she past away more than fifteen years ago, her spirit, love, energy and memory are with me everyday. I knew a tattoo of “our” favorite flower would be the perfect homage for someone I adored. After all, tattoos are for life, so they better be meaningful.

Enter, Malia Reynolds. Amazing and talented.
