UC and Beyond

urbancouture-vincent-martinez-fashionadoOver the years, I have kept in touch with former grads of UrbanCouture, UC. Being a ’senior designer’ is an intense and powerful experience for them and for me. We, parents included, go through so much emotion, stress and excitement as our fashion rock stars are busy creating looks for the runway and producing big events. ts a bonding experience for all.

This summer, I had lunch with Sarah Darrow and her mom Melissa. We talked about moving away for college and fashion careers. I’ve also stayed in contact with Taylor, Savanna, Shelby, Sarah C. and Kelsi, who stopped by to visit this week before she leaves for college next week.

As an educator, it is incredibly rewarding to feel that perhaps you’ve had an impact or made a difference in these young lives – to the point that they want to stay in contact with you.

PALS-rubbing-noses-fashionadoMondays aren’t exactly the most popular day of the week, except when it begins with a photo shoot involving a handsome dog, a hot nude model and a few glasses of champagne. All in the name of doing good!

Kevin Bryant, the Executive Director of Pets Are Loving Support(PALS) and I co-chair Rubbing Noses, a long standing signature event for the organization. This year’s event, which will be held on Sunday, September 26 at the Lambert Place, will feature a silent auction, a live auction with 11Alive’s Evelyn Mims, a menswear fashion show like no other, sponsored by the Boy Next Door and free-flowing cocktails.

SIMONE’S Makeover…

Canine-House-of-Style-fashionado

A few years ago, I met this man with the most spectacular looking standard poodle I’d ever seen. We were at a shoot for an independent film about dogs. I had wanted a standard for a very long time and this encounter pretty much sealed the deal and my search began.

The man’s name is Barry Bourgeois and he owns a doggie daycare and grooming salon. I was so impressed with the look and cut of his dog that I knew right there and then, he would be my dog’s groomer, someday.

Canine House of Style, in midtown, is Barry’s establishment and Simone’s beauty parlor every six weeks.
